How to get the most from your lash lifts - avoid these mistakes!

Lash lifts can be a hard treatment to master - if you're unaware of the actions that could result in varying results. Getting to know your product, different lash shields and lash types is integral to creating consistently good lifts.
That said, here's our three top tips to ensuring your lash lifts results stay consistent, and of course - amazing!
1. Check the position of your shield.
An incorrectly positioned shield can be detrimental to the outcome of your lift. Ensure your shield is positioned as close as you can to the lash line. When wrapping your lashes to the shield, try to avoid the water line "popping", this will affect the position of the shield, as well as affecting the overall lift. Your clients' lashes should wrap easily around the shield with no resistance or change in the position of the eyelid.
2. Check your step one before removing.
In brow lamination, it can be more apparent when step 1 needs to be removed. In lash lifts however, artists often use guesswork, paired with timings from brands to determine when to remove step 1. This can be inaccurate, and often results in disappointing results. In order to gain more accuracy, lash artists can conduct what's called a "bounce" test. To conduct a bounce test, artists should pick a lash (we recommend doing two checks, using a thinner, then a thicker lash) and remove from the shield. When the lash has been removed, push down on the lash and see if the lash "bounces" and reverts back to the shape of the shield. If it does - your step one has done its job and your lashes are ready to be removed from the shield.
3. Use the correct shield for your clients' lashes.
Often the most common error - this step is critical, as the size directly affects the lift and overall shape of the lashes. Selecting a shield that’s too small for long natural lashes can result in an over-curled look, where the lashes curl back on themselves or press too closely against the eyelid. On the other hand, using a shield that’s too large can lead to underwhelming results, with the lashes appearing almost straight or lifted minimally. To avoid this, always begin with a proper assessment of the client’s natural lash length, density, and eye shape. Consider the desired result—whether they want a dramatic lift or a softer curl—and select the shield accordingly. Taking a few extra moments during this step ensures the lashes are lifted in a way that complements the client's eyes and meets their expectations. Our top tip is to test the length of your clients lashes around a shield before applying adhesive or balm - if the lash length surpasses the length of the shield, a different shield should be chosen. Conversely, if the lashes only just reach around the shield, a smaller shield should be chosen.
