The Top 3 Lash Lift Mistakes You're Making

A lash lift is the perfect way to enhance your clients' natural lashes, giving them a beautifully lifted and curled effect without the need for extensions or daily mascara application. However, if you're not achieving the stunning results you expected, you may be making one of these common lash lift mistakes. At Snap Beauty, we want to help you get the most out of your treatment—so let's dive into the top three lash lift mistakes and how to avoid them.
1. Not Prepping Your Lashes Properly
One of the most overlooked steps in achieving the perfect lash lift is proper preparation. If your clients' lashes have any left-over makeup, oils, or dirt, the lifting solution may not work as effectively due to the fact it cannot penetrate the hair follicle effectively.
How to avoid this mistake:
-
Ensure the lashes are completely clean and free from mascara, eye creams, or oily makeup removers before starting the lash lift process. We recommend cleansing a few times if a client has noticeable signs of oily lids or makeup.
-
Use a gentle, oil-free cleanser to remove any residue and ensure the lifting solution adheres properly. Wash with water after to reduce discomfort from the client.
-
Advise your client to avoid using waterproof mascara in the days leading up to your lash lift, as it can leave behind stubborn buildup.
2. Overprocessing the Lashes
Leaving the lifting solution on for too long can lead to overprocessed, brittle, or frizzy lashes. This can weaken your natural lashes and even cause them to lose their curl prematurely.
How to avoid this mistake:
-
Asses your clients lashes meticulously, the thinner your client's lashes, the less time they will need to process.
-
If you're doing a DIY lash lift (which we don’t recommend!), follow the instructions carefully and never exceed the recommended processing time.
-
Do the bounce test to assess whether your step 1 is ready to be taken off. Take a lash from the shield, and see if the lash bounces back towards the shield when you push it forwards. If there is no bounce, there's no lift!
3. Picking the wrong shield size.
Finding the right shield size for your client is instrumental to creating a successful lash lift. There is a common myth that using a small shield on everybody will result in the biggest lift, this is untrue. It is important to recognise which shield is appropriate for your client to get the best lift! Here's our top tips to check which shield is the best:
- Look at your clients lashes from the side, the angle they naturally sit at will partially determine which shield is best. For those with naturally straight lashes, a medium or a small shield may suit best.
- Try your pulling your client's lashes back onto the shield, if they are exceeding the length of the selected shield, they won't lift well. Your clients lashes should be easy to attach to the shield, this will mean they always get a great lift.
