Common Brow Lamination Mistakes & How to Avoid Them

Brow lamination has become a go-to beauty treatment for achieving fuller, perfectly groomed brows. However, like any beauty procedure, mistakes can happen—especially if you're attempting an at-home kit! We always recommend a professional kit, that is used only by those who have extensive professional training!

If you’re noticing uneven results, over-processing, or lack of hold, you might be making one of these common brow lamination mistakes. Here’s how to fix them and achieve flawless, long-lasting brows.

1. Overprocessing the Brows

The Mistake:

Leaving the lifting solution on for too long can weaken the brow hairs, causing them to become brittle, frizzy, or even fall out. It's important to recognise when brow lamination needs to be taken off to avoid over-processing.

How to Avoid It:

  • Always follow the recommended processing time on your brow lamination kit.
  • If your clients' brows are fine or sparse, reduce the time slightly.
  • Never exceed the maximum time, even if you think your clients' brows need extra hold.
  • We recommend using your knowledge and intuition to decipher when a step 1 lamination needs removing. Use timings as a guide.

2. Using Too Much or Too Little Product

The Mistake:

Applying too much lifting or setting solution can lead to sticky, uneven results, while too little product might not fully laminate the brows. If you have brow hair that is lifted away from the root, brows may not be laminated properly - and the amount of product you're using may be the culprit!

How to Avoid It:

  • Use just enough solution to coat the hairs evenly without dripping.
  • A our re-usable micro brush to help control the amount of product applied.
  • Work in thin layers to ensure even distribution.

3. Skipping the Neutralising Solution

The Mistake:

Neutraliser is essential for locking the laminated shape in place. Skipping this step or not leaving it on long enough can cause the brows to lose their shape quickly. Our neutraliser is our Step 2 solution.

How to Avoid It:

  • Always apply the neutraliser as directed in your kit.
  • Let it sit for the full recommended time to ensure the hairs stay in place.
  • Comb the Step 2 neutralising solution through, this will ensure hairs remain straight and sleek.

4. Not Using Proper Aftercare

The Mistake:

Many people forget that freshly laminated brows need special care. Washing your face too soon, using harsh skincare products, or applying heavy oils can weaken the results.

How to Avoid It:

  • Avoid getting your brows wet for 24 hours after lamination. Saturating the brows may un-do the affects of lamination.
  • Skip exfoliating products and strong acids (like AHAs and BHAs) near your brows.
  • Use a nourishing brow serum to keep the hairs healthy and hydrated.

5. Laminating Too Often

The Mistake:

While brow lamination can last 6-8 weeks, doing it too frequently can weaken the hair structure, leading to thinning or breakage.

How to Avoid It:

  • Wait at least 6-8 weeks between lamination treatments.
  • If brows need extra hold between treatments, use a brow gel instead.

Brow lamination can be a game-changer for achieving full, fluffy brows—but only when done correctly! By avoiding these common mistakes and elevating your education surrounding brow treatments, you'll create some beautiful brows!
